The genre suits short sessions, since a run lasts until your first big mistake, and most runners speed up gradually so every attempt gets harder the longer you survive. Some titles here add a twist, such as collecting letters to spell words, answering quiz questions on the move or growing bigger to smash through walls.

The most useful habit in any runner is to look further ahead than feels natural. Obstacles appear in patterns, and reacting to the one after next gives you time to line up the right lane. Swipe and tap controls work well on phones; on a computer most runners use the arrow keys.
