How Big Are Browser Games? We Measured All 32 on This Site
Browser games feel weightless because nothing installs, but every one of them still has to reach your device before it can run. We wanted a real number instead of a guess, so on 4 November 2026 we measured all 32 games on this site. We added up every file in each game's folder, then compressed each file with gzip at level 6, a common web-server setting, to estimate what actually travels over the network.
The short answer
The files of a typical game here come to about 44 MB, and the estimated download is about 18 MB. The smallest is Cheesy Run, with 16.0 MB of files and about 6.4 MB to download. The largest, by a long way, is Extreme Car Driving, with 147.3 MB of files and about 110.7 MB to download. All 32 together come to 1,478 MB of files, or about 699 MB compressed, so compression cuts the total by a little over half.

What is inside those files
Of the 32 games, 31 are Unity WebGL builds, and each of those has the same four main files. Dead 2048 is a typical example: a 13 KB loader script that starts everything, a framework script of about 0.37 MB, a WebAssembly file of 22.4 MB holding the compiled game code and engine, and a data file of 16.9 MB holding the game's scenes, textures and sound. Across the whole catalogue, WebAssembly files make up 55 percent of the total and data files 43 percent.
Those two parts behave very differently from game to game. The WebAssembly files stay in a fairly narrow band, from 10.7 MB to 40.7 MB. The data files run from 4.3 MB to 121.5 MB. So when a game is unusually large, the data file is normally the reason.
Extreme Car Driving shows this clearly. Its WebAssembly file is an ordinary 25.4 MB, but its data file is 121.5 MB, almost three times the next largest (Archer Ninja, at 41.4 MB). That fits what the game is: a free-roam 3D city with blocks of buildings, ramps and a garage of cars to pick from.
Why compression helps some games more than others
Compression doesn't save the same amount everywhere. Unfold Blocks, a clean white puzzle with very little art, goes from 27.1 MB to about 8.0 MB, a saving of around 70 percent, because most of its size is a WebAssembly file and code compresses well. Extreme Car Driving only drops by about a quarter.
Forest Match is the extreme case, going from 16.6 MB to about 15.6 MB. It is the one game here built with Construct instead of Unity, so it has no WebAssembly file. When we looked inside its folder, 47 percent of the size was PNG images and 46 percent was audio, and those formats are already compressed. It can't shrink much further.
Looks don't predict size
You might expect the flashiest games to be the biggest, but that only holds loosely. Board Soccer, a wooden tabletop with a few discs, has 16.5 MB of files, while Finger Soccer, which is also about flicking discs, has 38.1 MB. House Paint is flat bright stripes and blocks, yet its 39.2 MB of files is close to the 41.5 MB of Idle City, a whole island of buildings and roads.
By category, the average file totals are 74.4 MB for racing, 50.3 MB for action, 46.9 MB for simulation, 38.0 MB for puzzle, 35.9 MB for runner and 33.2 MB for sports. The racing figure is pulled up by that one sandbox: without Extreme Car Driving, the other four average about 56 MB.
What this means when you play
If you are on mobile data, these numbers are worth a glance. Nine games are under 15 MB by our estimate: Cheesy Run, Board Soccer, Unfold Blocks, House Paint, Jet Fire, Stamp It, Idle City, Cube Run and Basketball Dunk. Six are over 25 MB, and we would save Extreme Car Driving for Wi-Fi.
To make this easier, game pages here don't download anything from the game until you press Play, and the cover shows the size of its files first. After that, your browser usually keeps the files in its cache, so a repeat visit is much lighter unless you have cleared your browsing data or the browser has removed them to free up space.
Treat the download column as an estimate. Your browser and the server agree on a compression method for each request, and in one check of ours a WebAssembly file arrived using Brotli, which often compresses better than gzip, so a real download can be somewhat smaller. These figures also say nothing about memory use while a game is running, or about how good a game is.
We measured these sizes from the files on our own server. We will measure again when the catalogue changes, and you can see those changes on the Updates page.
